COLOR IS LIKE A CANDY STORE – COLOR PALETTE GENERATION
Finding an a fresh and fitting color palette for my client campaigns and projects is one of the earliest parts of my creative process. Good design depends on editing and elimination. Color is like candy though and when I first arrive in the candy store – my first feeling is unutterable joy and anticipation…my third feeling is complete overwhelm. Nausea can result from me staying in the store too long sampling the wares.
There are other palette generators out there but, none of them have the simplicity and gorgeous aesthetic of coolors.co. It’s fast and very easy to learn and use. There’s a tiny link at the bottom of the page – tutorial. Use it if you get stuck.
It’s certainly geared to web designers with it’s prominently displayed hex values but, the interface allows all sorts of saves, collections, manipulations and display options.
My current project is in need of some Scandi freshness. So I’m playing around with these ranges.
So – is your palette working for your project? Does it say something clear about what you are here to do?
Does it convey the mood you want your customers to have when interacting with you and your project or services? Can you eliminate two or three colors and still give that feeling? Less is more in most cases…unless you are going for tropical riot…or a candy factory.
