I haven’t been this excited about a tech project for about a decade. The last five years or so has been painful as we watched the internet become truly captured territory as the political winds shift and discourse turns to violent rhetoric for kicks and distraction. The corporatization of the web cannot be tolerated if human freedom is a central value we hold dear. It becomes ever more urgent to retake the space and create just, fair and equitable platforms, ecosystems and tools for the people who use and create all the actual value on the network.
I do not have a lot of time to explain at the moment but, please check out and share this with any social entrepreneurs, developers who remain engaged idealists and activists you know.
Please dip in, read up and get involved and share this link far and wide!
The people involved are stellar folks. This team is currently wrapping up a wildly successful indiegogo campaign. They have raised over 500K to seed the world with their hardware. They are seeking developers who will take a survey to get feedback and iterate on the ecosystem. Please send this to the devs you know and encourage them to take the survey!
We are a community of passionate humans building a distributed cloud, owned and run by users like you and me.
From the site:
“Holo provides a way to unleash the enormous idle capacity in everyone’s computers. This gives us the power to build vibrant cloud hosting communities that will challenge how the Internet monopolies control our data and our interactions. Holo offers each of us the ability to participate by sharing, earning, and building the future of the web.

Holo is helping to grow a more human Internet — where you control your personal data and choose how your applications work. With Holo, you share your computer’s spare capacity to help others connect to peer-to-peer apps. When people use the apps you host, you can get rewarded in cryptocurrency by the app’s creators. Connect your HoloPort to the network. Choose what apps you want to host. Help take back the Internet.
When the gift you wish to share with the world is a decentralized mode of measuring the subtlest streams of value; river, rain, and tidepool metaphors begin to take on more meaning. Eric Harris-Braun, Fernanda Ibarra, and Art Brock’s intuitions about distributed computing and (r)evolutionary human collaboration became a rich floodplain, gathering together techno-culture enthusiasts, activists, media theorists, healers, next economy geeks, artists, and leading thinkers in collective intelligence. Some were in the business of manifesting social entrepreneurship. Others were pursuing their crafts. A few were furthering their studies. Each effort was a steady flow, chipping away the same myth, layered in centuries of thick sediment: humans function best when responding to a central authority-from-above, whether in governments, schools, businesses, or in our increasingly networked digital lives.”
